PRACTICE: THE FIRE CEREMONY
The living being we call fire can be our partner in taking our dreams up to the creator or the creative forces of the universe. The nature of fire is to transmute and transform. But in the following ceremony you are asking the fire to help you with your process of creation as the smoke of the fire carries your dreams and prayers to the heavens above. Therefore instead of asking the fire to help you dissolve something you are asking the fire to help you manifest something.
With fire's help, we combine the principles of as above, so below; as within, so without. We do our creation work with our own creator within and also take our dreams to the creator without. The energy from the earth meets the energy of the heavens.
This work can be done alone or with others, including children. Children love to participate in ceremonies.
1. Before making the fire, make or find something that can be burned that embodies the prayer or dream you are trying to manifest. You might, for instance, draw a picture of the world embracing the vision you are dreaming into being. Or you could focus on the dream or prayer while wrapping some yarn around a small stick.
Remember to really get the power of your dream into your stick, drawing, or other object. If it is too difficult to concentrate on your intention while making the drawing or wrapping the yarn, use your breath to blow the power of your desire into your finished object.
2. Build a fire as I described in chapter 2, but this time as you build the fire, tell it that you would like it to take your dreams to the creator.
3. Give thanks to the fire for being willing to take your dreams and visions to the creative forces of the universe.
4. When you are ready, place the drawing or the stick into the fire while concentrating on what you are creating.
5. Give an offering to the fire in thanks. I offer cedar, but a dried plant, favorite food, or a simple thank-you are all perfect offerings. Remember, the creation process holds the energy of joy and celebration. Make the ceremony exciting and do something fun afterward. You might wish to do some singing or dancing, or eat your favorite foods.
